Compute for Climate Fellowship in partnership with Amazon AWS

With a team at AWS we designed a first-of-its-kind global program as reported by Forbes, with up to $1.5M in total AWS credits to fund ground-breaking proof of concepts (PoC) that think big, need a million core runs and have the most innovated use of advanced cloud computing and AI/ML, and enable the world to more quickly address the climate crisis.

Artificial Intelligence 4 Development Africa Program with IDRC

Tasked with developing the AI4D funding programme, a concrete vision for how AI technology could enable a better future in Africa, and directing funding into research that can make it a reality resulting in an investment of £80 million over the next five years, as announced at the UK AI Safety Summit in London in 2023.

African Language Program

Funded projects addressing the digital gap in African languages such as the Fellowship to develop datasets and strengthen capacities and innovation potential for Low Resource African Languages covering 9 African languages, spoken across 22 countries, reaching 300 million speakers. The programme was the basis for future work that went on to be awarded the Wikimedia Foundation Research Award of the Year for 2021.
