About me

Davor Orlic
Davor Orlic, MA in Digital Humanities

I’m a lead and programme portfolio owner with expertise in tech, research and science, policy and product. I’m eager to inspire and help team members do their best work.

I co-created IRCAI, backed by UNESCO and the Slovenian government, the AI center called “The New Kid on the Block” by Politico.

As COO, I helped set the center’s vision and goals, in addition to leading strategy, product, fundraising and management. Under my leadership, IRCAI built a brand name, serving researchers and policymakers, with a virtual currency worth across the European Commission, United Nations, AI centres across global north and south, NGOs, international bodies like GPAI, and intergovernmental agencies like UNESCO, including law-making initiatives like CAI (Council of Europe) and marginalized AI groups across Sub-Saharan Africa like Deep Learning Indaba.

Prior to and at the same time as IRCAI, I was running the K4A Foundation, where I built an extensive project and capacity-building portfolio in AI and open education with US philanthropies such as Hewlett and Rockefeller Foundations, development agencies like IDRC, SIDA, GIZ, and first-of-it’s-kind open education program that helped deliver a policy brief that got passed into an international soft-law.

I earned an MA at UCL, where I became an honorary research assistant at the UCL Centre for Artificial Intelligence.

Talk to me about tech, sustainability, the education divide, products, international policy, the democratization of education, and empowering underserved minorities in tech.
